It's Christmas! Top 10 Christmas films? Well, okay.
1. The Muppet Christmas Carol - For my money the best movie version. Remarkably faithful to the story despite being filled with frogs, pigs, talking fruit etc. Great songs, great Michael Caine. Love it. ****1/2
2. It's a Wonderful Life - Technically this is a finer film than Muppets... but I do love me Muppets, so it's the number 2 slot for this wonderful, heartwarming classic. James Stewart, man. So great. ****1/2
3. The Polar Express - Bob. Ah, Bob. You've done it again. ****1/2
4. Miracle on 34th Street - The original's not bad but the remake kicks its ass. It's a sweetheart. Features Joss 'Snowfall' Ackland in a supporting role. ****
5. The Santa Clause 2 - Hated the original, loved this. ****
6. Bad Santa - Saw this last night, and I pissed my pants laughing. Not exactly Christmassy, but bloody funny. ****
7. Big Business - Classic Laurel and Hardy short in which the boys try to sell Christmas trees. Very very funny. ****
8. The Nightmare Before Christmas - Stunning animation, but a few too many songs. Still, it's wildly inventive. ***1/2
9. The Family Man - Yet another riff on Wonderful Life/Christmas Carol but so are most Christmas movies, so bollocks to it. ***1/2
10. Richie Rich's Christmas Wish - Honest! Shite original, cracking sequel, even if it is just a rip off of It's A Wonderful Life, but so are most, etc. ***
And the bottom of the barrel...
