I saw this in America, so dunno when its out here. Oddly I saw it on the 23rd of feb...lol *spoiler-free*
I went to see this film on the basis on Jim Carrey and an intriguing poster, having not read bout it at all, and was glad I picked this over "music and lyrics" (hmm..)
I liked the start. It was different, with our main man Walter bored on his birthday and explaining where "it all began.." as we go on the film gets darker in tone and shifts dangerously close to a Da Vinci code-esque conspiracy flick, but quickly redeems itself into an interestingly little thriller. I didn't see the last twist coming kept my intrigue, had some nice father-son (not corny) moments and was visually looovely. The dream/flashback/fantasy parts are dark and lucid and stylalised not unlike Sin City style. These (especially the first time we see this, in the classroom...so surreal. love it ;D) were the highlights for me, although once he's finished reading the book we stay mainly in reality, which is twisted enough anyway!
Im trying not to give anything away cos its a nice twisty film and i dont want to spoil the end! If you liked Secret Window or The Jacket give this film a watch - Jim is looking surprisingly serious, and he actually gives a very intense performance. Anyone who reads American Cinematographer seen anything about the look of the dream/flashback bits? I'd love to know how they did it. CGI? Some weird Gels? But yeh, a psychological thriller about obsession which was easier to digest than The Prestige but better written than Secret Window (sorry stephen k!) First one to start seeing 23 everywhere wins the prize of paranoia...
