Lost - **
Yes 2 stars but still watching. Not due to being invested in the show but simply because I want to see what the explanation is. But I have a sneaking feeling JJ and his crew don't know either.
In contrast to 24, where, from the mouths of the producers and writers, they don't know where the series will end up, but somehow watching it, we never feel like we're not in good hands.
In Lost however.... Well it's not just me. People have switched off all over the US and in the UK. With the carrot dangling not only getting further away but getting small as well, as a show and as TV producers they have to take note for future shows. People are only willing to invest so much. Before they need some sort of return. Having scene after scene pretty much saying to the audience, "remember this, it might mean something later" followed by another scene "remember this one too, as it'll mean something later." After a while the audience's brain can't store all this information. Hence we have these reminders at the start of each episode so we recap. Yes they happen at the start of every show, but here some scenes are from last season, or the start of the season and we're currently on episode 22!
As for the flashbacks....one word. BORING
Most recently, Locke picks up a hitch hiker and welcomes him into his friends and family only to find out 6 weeks later he's a cop and the cop is investigation the drug business they are working on. As Locke picked up the guy, it's up to Locke to "clear up his own mess". Which is a line he repeats when he's on the island and has caused the hatch to explode and losing Mr Echo. So the only connection....is the line? Okay maybe it might come back and explain itself at the end of season 46 but by then....pfft!
Kate flashes back to a time when she changed her name and married a cop. He loves her, buys her a holiday, realises she can't go as she's a wanted woman and leaves him. The reason for the flashback? Dunno. Missed on me. We already know she's wanted, we know she's had relationships before she could keep etc...so...what...?
Every time that flashback sound comes up....I mentally switch off. It's crap, it's boring, get back to the island where more exciting stuff is happening!!!! Flashbacks like in Signs, or any movie for that matter are to, listen makers of Lost, "Give us information we don't know, and need to know..." not just cause you're trying to extend the running time as the studio as told you to find stories for another 4 seasons...
But I'll still borrow the next episode off Will, just so...I can moan.
